We know that many of you, when the clock strikes midnight, will crumple up and toss out the pack of cigarettes you’ve promised will be your last, hang up the bundles of clothes that have been draped for months over that piece of exercise equipment in your bedroom or vow to leave work at your welcome mat and spend more time with friends and family.
We’ve thought about getting a treadmill here at the office, but can’t figure out how to successfully rig a laptop to the control panel. We’ve also thought about switching to decaf, but wonder how to keep our foreheads off our keyboards when the clock strikes 10 — in the morning or at night. Maybe one of you can help us become more healthy as the coming months drag on.
If we here at the Exchange had to settle on a collective resolution, it would be the same one with which we start every day at the office — to produce as much as we can, to make this newspaper as local as possible, to continue to improve and serve the community to the best of our ability.
So in January 2014 and all the months following, we resolve to work harder, work better and work faster to deliver to you features that highlight Scotland County personalities, news of people and organizations who strive to make a difference, and even the news that you love to read but would rather be happening elsewhere. We know that we often fall short, and will continue to strive to change. We want, above all else, to make your trip to pick up the paper or to retrieve it out of your box one that you look forward to every day — and if we fail, we expect to hear from you.
On this cusp of the new year, we wish you health, wealth, peace and much love from family and friends. We can’t wait to tell your stories.
