Tonia Stephenson Chamber Chat
December 25, 2013
I would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas from your Laurinburg/Scotland County Area Chamber of Commerce. This is a very special time of year for most of us as we make time for friends and family. We spend time and money showing our love to those in our lives. Many times, the people who receive our love is someone very close to us and other times it is someone at our work, or who attends our church, or know in some other way. However, we do spend a lot of effort in showing our love to people through this time of the year. It is too bad that we can’t keep that effort up all year long.
There are other people who I think about during this time of year. What about the elderly who have no family? What about the man or woman who doesn’t have a safe place to sleep at night. What about the child who is not sure if he or she will have a meal on Christmas? What about the parents who lay awake at night trying to figure out how they are going to be able to afford a present for their child this year? For me, I sometimes have to stop and remember that not everyone is excited about this time of year and for some people, this time of year brings on a stress that they may not be able to emotionally handle and could use a bright smile or a helping hand.
During this very busy week, I hope you will take a moment to think about something you could do for a stranger. It really doesn’t have to be anything big. Buy them a cup of coffee, buy an extra toy for a child you know, or give a donation to one of the charities who help families or the homeless. This type of behavior can be contagious and can make a big difference in the lives of the people around you, sometimes without you even knowing it. You never know what the person you help is going through and you may be the only blessing they see in that moment.
I hope you have a very special week and it be filled with good times with cherished loved ones.
Merry Christmas to all!
