To the editor:

On June 19, around 11 a.m., there was a terrible accident on Plant Road. My 1-year-old grandson got away from me and darted in the road. The driver didn’t mean to hit him and was not at fault.

I’d just like to say thank you to everyone involved — police officers, EMS workers and the Highway Patrol. Thanks for all the respect you showed myself and my family.

I would like to say a special thank-you to Myrtle Oxendine also of Plant Road. She had two signs put up in memory of him, Jy’Mier Baker-Johnson. His birthday was Oct. 1, and he would have been 2.
