LAURINBURG — Poet and flash fiction specialist Don Shea will be the featured guest at the St. Andrews University Writers’ Forum Thursday.

The free forum begins at 8 p.m. in the Ronald H. Bayes Writers’ Forum Lounge in Orange Hall.

A New York City native, Shea went to work as a programmer for IBM after receiving bachelor’s and master’s degrees from New York University. While with IBM, he did a personal project to write one of the first poetry generating programs and published the result in Avant Guarde magazine and in the Doubleday anthology Quickly Aging Here.

He moved on from IBM to run his own software company and then take consulting positions. After 23 years in the business world he formally entered the writing field.
