RCC seminar to address insurance concerns

October 7, 2013

Hamlet — Richmond Community College will host a seminar Nov. 13 that will assist business owners in understanding their legal obligations under the new health care reform act.

Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act was signed into law March 2010, bringing with its passage a complex mix of requirements for employers. Amy Smith and Tim Robinson, certified public accountants with Hughes, Pittman & Gupton will help business owners wade through these complexities and help them make sure they are in compliance with the law’s requirements. They will also address tax and financial impacts of the ACA for employers.

“Health Care Reform and Its Impact on Your Business” will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Cole Auditorium on RCC’s main campus in Hamlet. Cost to attend is $25, and lunch is provided. Registration and payment must be paid by Nov. 6 in order to receive lunch.

More than 70 percent of small businesses recently surveyed by e-Health responded that they expect compliance with the act to be complex enough to warrant outside assistance with interpreting the legislation. How it affects businesses will depend on several factors, including whether a company currently offers health insurance to its employee, if a company is self-insured or fully-insured and the number of people employed by a company.
