Downtown tree removed

October 2, 2013

Downtown traffic was disrupted on Wednesday as the 800 block of Main Street, from Welch Street to West Boulevard, was blocked off and crews worked to fell a 100-year-old city tree. According to city arborist Rodney Byrd, the tree, located in front of Byrd Insurance, was severely hollowed throughout half of the trunk and its falling limbs had damaged cars. The work crews began at 7 a.m. on Wednesday and continued to work through the afternoon. Traffic is expected to resume as normal today.
