LAURINBURG — One of the pairs playing at Bridge-at-the-Village Monday had a high score that was noteworthy. Patsy Smith and Timothy Rumph finished play with a 36.50 score out of a possible perfect score of 48 on the 18 boards played. This meant their winning percentage was 76.04 percent, a remarkably high average.

Among sanctioned bridge clubs in the United States, scores this high are reported in the Bridge Bulletin, the monthly magazine published by the American Contract Bridge League. Unfortunately for our high scoring pair, scores must be earned in games of 5 or more tables and this past Monday the game at Bridge-at-the-Village had only four-and-a-half tables playing. Nevertheless, congratulations are due these two for sujch an excellent showing.

Bridge-at-the-Village is the only ACBL-sanctioned club in Scotland County, and meets every Monday evening at 6 p.m. in the Scotia Village Café. New players are always welcome.

Coming it at No. 2 on Monday were Betty Hasty / Lil Owens. The teams of Gail and Jim Lockamy and Archie McRimmon and Mac Doubles had a 3/4 tie, and in a 2nd/3rd tie in B. were Ruth and Ben Drymon, Betty Gatrell and Flo Johnston.
