LAURINBURG — Certified Nurse Midwife Kim Lopes has joined the staff of Marlboro Ob/Gyn and Scotland Health Care System.

She and her family will relocate to Laurinburg from the mountains of West Virginia. Most recently she and her family lived in Charleston, West Virginia, where she practiced as a nurse midwife for the past six years.

Her eight year old son, Alexander, is a thirdgrader at South Scotland Primary School, and his father, D.J., is a nurse at Scotland Health Care System.

“I was drawn to midwifery because I wanted to empower women and help them to learn about and to trust their bodies,” Lopes said. “I want to teach women to be comfortable with themselves.”

Lopes holds bachelor’s degrees in Applied Science and Nursing. She earned a master’s degree in Nursing and was named a Certified Nurse Midwife after attending Yale University School of Nursing.
