Laurinburg native named Navy training commander

BISHOP, TEXAS — A Laurinburg native has been named the Naval Air Training commander for Air Wing Two in Bishop, Texas.

Capt. Donald A. Nisbett Jr. is a 1990 graduate of Wake Forest University where he earned a degree in biology.

He was commissioned through the Aviation Officer Candidate School Program in November 1990 and designated a Naval Aviator in October 1992.

Nisbett is a 2005 graduate of the Naval War College in Newport, R.I., and holds a master’s degree in national security and strategic studies. He completed the Joint Professional Military Education Phase II course at the Joint Forces Staff College in Norfolk, Va., in 2006.

“I’m very excited to come NAS Kingsville and play a role in the future of Naval Aviation on front end,” Nisbett said. “That’s where I see my greatest impact will be as commander, Training Air Wing TWO; influencing the next generation of fleet aviators on the front end.”
