Joshua 1: 6 – “Be strong and of good courage…”
Life is filled with problems, challenges, and disappointments. Things happen that foil our best laid plans. Often we find ourselves let down and discouraged. Despite the circumstances in life, discouragement does not have to overwhelm us. When we are discouraged, often our faith is put to the test. There are three underlying causes for discouragement. We lack confidence in God, we lack confidence in ourselves, or we sense a lack of direction for the future. When Joshua faced these, God told him, “Be strong and of good courage.” God reminded him that he needed to keep a vital, personal relationship with God. The answer to discouragement is getting our focus off of ourselves and our limited resources, and focusing on the unlimited power of God. He can do what we cannot do for ourselves. When we give our discouragement to God, He can encourage and draw us even closer to Himself. This gives us a New Hope for Today.
